No Love For J’Leon

Last time they fought on the same card, Badou Jack was knocked out in the first round, and J’Leon Love went on to win his fight.  This time was the complete opposite.  Jack went 10 rounds, won every round, in a completely one sided victory.  J’Leon Love was knocked out.  Maybe these two should stop fighting on the same night, because it hasn’t been working out well.

J’Leon Love (18-0-1, 10KO’s), arguably The Money Team top prospect, was set to get in between the ropes with Rogelio “Porky” Medina (32-6, 26KO’s).  This should have been another one sided affair.  Porky Medina had other plans though, and Love was in for a rude twist of fate.  Yes, Love is a defensive counter puncher.  Yes, he will dance around the ring a little.  On this night though, Love didn’t look like he wanted to fight at all.  Constantly running, counter punching here and there, he just didn’t look right.  He didn’t attack at all for the first 2 rounds.  Then in the third, Love finally got it going a little bit, but just like that, things turned around.  Porky Medina is notoriously an all or nothing fighter who relies on his heavy hands and charging at his opponents to win his fights.  Kind of like a much less skilled Marcos Maidana.  In the 3rd, Love found himself backed into the corner again, and just like that, Medina hit him with a very clean left hook.  Love was down for the count.

In all honesty, Love beat himself in this fight.  He didn’t look prepared, and he didn’t attack.  The worst part was that Medina was supposed to be J’Leon’s last obstacle to overcome, before getting his long awaited world title shot.  It’s back to the end of the line for Love now, and a slingshot to Medinas career, as he takes down TMT’s top prospect in very impressive fashion.
