November 8th, 2014.  Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Light Heavyweight bragging rights at stake.  After dodging Kovalev and then signing with showtime,  Adonis Stevenson sure does look like he took the easy way out, and Sergey Kovalev was definitely not happy.  But with the departure of “Superman”, and Kovalev wondering who his next opponent will be, he found “The Alien”.  Or should I say, “The Alien” found him.  The list of people willing to fight Sergey Kovalev is very short, and now doesn’t include Adonis Stevenson.  Seemingly not afraid of any challenge, the 49 year old Bernard Hopkins is on that list.

Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins (55-6-2, 32KO’s) is no doubt a very impressive human being.  To say that he is defying the law of time, would be an understatement.  He is fighting for a title 10 years after most fighters retire.  And his recent streak of victories is nothing to frown about.  After losing to Chad Dawson in April of 2012, Hopkins has got back on the horse in a fierce way.  He defeated Tavoris Cloud and Karo Murat via unanimous decision to retain his IBF Light Heavyweight title.  Then he defeated Beibut Shumanov via split decision to retain his IBF title and win the WBA Light heavyweight title.  His dream, to be the undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion.

In his way stands Sergey “The Crusher” Kovalev (25-0-1, 23KO’s).  After defeating Cedric Agnew by KO in the 7th round, and Blake Caparello by TKO in the 2nd round, Kovalev gets the opportunity of a lifetime.  That opportunity being, to fight the best in the division.  Many thought the name next to Kovalev on the fight card would be Stevenson.  I guess he proved he doesn’t really consider himself the best in the division.  He proved that by running.  On the other hand, who in their right mind would want to fight a destroyer like Kovalev.  With that being said, this title unification will read, Sergey Kovalev VS Bernard Hopkins.  This will be the pure boxer, the technician, the man that defies time VS simply “The Crusher”.  Will humanity prevail, or will the Alien take back his planet?

Pediction:   Humanity prevails.  Sergey Kovalev knocks out Bernard Hopkins in the 9th round

  1. I think you’re right on about the prediction. I don’t think he’ll actually get Hopkins to stay down through a ten-count, but I do think there may be a stoppage as Kovalev’s energy wears on Hopkins. My guess would be an early stoppage, because Hopkins usually seems to warm up later in the fight. Do you think it’ll be the end of his career if he gets knocked out? I guess it might depend on how bad the knockout turns out to be.

idk.. thats a good question. i just think it will take a while for the stoppage cause hopkins is so annoying in the ring. it takes people a while to get it going against him.. but i wouldn’t be surprised by an early TKO. i think hopkins wants to retire as a 50 year old. i say one more fight after this one so he can leave on a high note.
