Has the Heavyweight division been worth watching since the 90’s?  No it has not.  Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfeild were the last true Heavyweight warriors actually worth watching.  Now we have a chance, an opportunity, to have our next Heavyweight savior.  His name is Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KO’s).  On his quest for glory, there is one man standing in his way.  His name is Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s), and he is the WBC World Heavyweight Champion.  Here is a breakdown of their upcoming clash on January the 17th:

  • Record:  32 – 0 (32 KO’s)
  • Weight Class:  Heavyweight (No Limit)
  • Height:  6′ 7″
  • Reach:  84″
  • Notable Fights:  Kelvin Price (Win, KO 3rd, 12/15/12), Nicolai Firtha (Win, KO 4rd, 10/26/13), Malik Scott (Win, KO 1rd, 3/15/14)

  • Record:  24 – 1 – 1 (21 KO’s)
  • Weight Class:  Heavyweight (No Limit)
  • Height:  6′ 2″
  • Reach:  80″
  • Notable Fights:  Ray Austin (Win, TKO 10rd, 6/25/11), Chris Arreola #1 (Win, UD 12rd, 4/27/13), Chris Arreola #2 (Win, TKO 6rd, 5/10/14)

Bermane Stiverne holds the only major Heavyweight Championship (WBC), besides Wladimir Klitschko who holds all the others.  After months and months of negotiations, these two knockout artists will finally go at it on January 17 2014, on Showtime Boxing.  With Wladimir Klitschko continuing to fight overmatched opponents, this will hands down be the most exciting Heavyweight fight in recent years.  It also raises a lot of eyebrows because of the fact that this will be the first real test for either fighter, and we will see exactly what these two are made of.  The 90’s were absolutely great for Heavyweights, and I think that NOW is the time again for the nearly dead division to awaken.  The winner of this fight should be named the mandatory contender for Klitschko’s championships, and if we are lucky, we will finally have an undisputed World Heavyweight Champion.

Prediction:  Deontay Wilder  —  def  —  Bermane Stiverne  —  via  —  KO  —  6th round

Note to my readers:  I apologize for my lack of recent posts.  The holidays have been a very busy time for me, keeping up with my full-time job, and running around buying gifts and getting ready for Christmas.  I hope you all enjoyed whatever it is that you and your families celebrate, and have a very happy New Year!  I will be adding a new category to my blog in January, that will be titled “The Profile Cabinet”.  Every few weeks, I will choose a fighter at random, and do a complete profile on that fighter.  I Hope you all enjoy it and continue reading.
