Can anyone withstand the Kazakh thunder?  Martin Murray will put his chin the the ultimate test on February 21st in Monte Carlo, where he will put his WBC Silver Middleweight title on the line.  Golovkin will be defending his WBA (super), WBC interim, and IBO Middleweight titles.  Here’s how the two fighters break down:

GENNADY GOLOVKIN

-Record:  31 – 0 (28 KO’s)

-Weight Class:  Middleweight (160 lbs)

-Height:  5′ 10″

-Reach:  70″

-Notable Fights:

  • Matthew Macklin – Win, KO 3rd round, 6/29/13.  (Retained WBA & IBO Middleweight titles)
  • Curtis Stevens – Win, TKO 8th round, 11/2/13.  (Retained WBA & IBO Middleweight titles)
  • Daniel Geale – Win, TKO 3rd round, 7/26/14.  (Retained WBA super & IBO Middleweight titles)

Gennady “GGG” Golovkin currently has a 90% KO rate, which is the highest percentage in boxing history of and Middleweight Champion.  It seems that its just a matter of time before “GGG” disposes of his opponent, but he has a tough test in front of him in the form of Martin Murray.  Golovkin is coming off of a second round knockout of seasoned veteran, Marco Antonio Rubio, back in October of last year.  Can anyone put Golovkin to the test?  Or will this be another quick knockout?

MARTIN MURRAY

-Record:  29 – 1 – 1 (12 KO’s)

-Weight Class:  Middleweight (160 lbs)

-Height:  6′ 0″

-Reach:  73″

-Notable Fights:

  • Felix Sturm – Draw, 12 rounds, 12/2/11.  (For WBAsuper Middleweight title)
  • Sergio Martinez – Loss, UD 12 rounds, 4/27/13.  (For TheRing & WBC Middleweight titles)
  • Max Bursak – Win, UD 12 rounds, 6/21/14.  (Won vacant WBC silver Middleweight title)

Martin Murray is the last formidable opponent left for Golovkin in the Middleweight division, besides Lineal Champ Miguel Cotto.  He is ranked #4 in the division, and is coming in to this fight with an opportunity of a life time.  An opportunity to knock of a fighter that many consider to be #1 pound for pound in the world.  Can he seize this moment and come away with a victory, or will he just be another victim of the Kazakh mauler?  Murray has a slight reach advantage, and has never been knocked out, so it will be very interesting to see if his chin can hold up in this fight.

Prediction:  Gennady Golovkin  —  def  —  Martin Murray  —  via  —  TKO  —  5th Round
