Monte Carlo was a very small venue for a fight of this caliber, but you could still hear the roar of the crowd every time Martin Murray landed a punch.  The audience in the building were largely in favor of the fellow European star, but the millions watching at home, were definitely pulling for arguably the best fighter in the game today, in the form of Gennady Golovkin.  Golovkins’ rise to superstardom was very quick, largely because of his insane amount of knockouts, which is what the modern fight fan craves more then anything.  And last night was no different.

I gave Martin Murray the first round of the fight, and then it was all GGG from there.  Golovkin, even tho he usually dispatches his opponent in the early rounds, takes his time with a fighter and attacks at nearly perfect times.  Golovkins’ offensive arsenal is very complete, as he throws a large variety of punches from different angles, while stalking and cutting off the ring superbly.  His uppercut was on display more then usual last night, and by the middle rounds, Murray’s nose was a bloody mess.

Murray did accomplish something that no one else ever has, by taking GGG into the 11th rounds.  Golovkin has yet to got 12, but this was without a doubt, his toughest test to date.  Murray went down twice in the 4th, but recovered nicely and continued to be a headache going forward.  He went down once more in the 10th, and in the 11th round, Murray got hit with a hook causing him to drop his guard, and Golovkin hit him with a huge right hand that Murray could not recover from.  The fact being that Murray was already down 3 times before the 11th, the referee decided that he’s seen enough, and had to save Murray from himself by calling a halt to the action.  So what else is new, it goes as yet another knockout victory for Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, as he improvised to 32 – 0 with 29 knockouts.
