On Saturday June 6th, live on HBO, Lineal/WBC Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto will put his titles on the line against former WBA/IBF/IBO Middleweight champion Daniel Geale.  One can’t help but wonder why Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez is not in Daniel Geales’ place here, but non the less, it is an opportunity of a lifetime for Geale.  The opportunity to become the Lineal World Middleweight Champion.  These days don’t come often, but Cotto got his shot against Sergio martinez and ran with it.  Will Daniel Geale do the same?  Here is how they break down:

MIGUEL COTTO

-Record:  39 – 4 – 0, 32 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Middlewieght (160 lbs)

-Height:  5′ 7″

-Reach:  67″

-Notable Fights:

  • Antonio Margarito #2 – Win, TKO 10th round, 12/3/11.  (Retained WBAsuper Junior Middleweight title)
  • Floyd Mayweather Jr – Loss, UD 12 rounds, 5/5/12.  (Lost WBAsuper Junior Middleweight title)
  • Sergio Martinez – Win, TKO 10th round, 6/7/14.  (Won Lineal, WBC, TheRing Middleweight titles)

After acquiring Freddy Roach as his trainer, Miguel Cotto has turned in to superman.  After his 3 round destruction of Delvin Rodriguez, Cotto got the shot at the Middleweight championship.  He would have to move up in weight (160 lbs) for this fight, and many predicted martinez to win.  Cotto was the underdog in their bout, and he would prove everyone wrong with a TKO victory over the great Middleweight champion.  Cotto now puts it all on the line against Daniel Geale, and this time he is the odds on favorite to win.

DANIEL GEALE

-Record:  31 – 3 – 0, 16 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Middlewieght (160 lbs)

-Height:  5′ 10″

-Reach:  71″

-Notable Fights:

  • Daniel Dawson – Win, UD 12 rounds, 12/14/07.  (Won Vacant IBO Middleweight title)
  • Felix Sturm – Win, SD 12 rounds, 9/1/12.  (Won WBAsuper Middleweight title)
  • Gennady Golovkin – Loss, TKO 3rd round, 7/26/14.

After being destroyed by Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Geale bounced back nicely against Jarrod Fletcher with a unanimous decision victory over 12 rounds.  Geale will now take the next step, and fight another legitimate champion.  He wasn’t able to bring the belts home against Golovkin, but now he gets a second chance.  Geale is no stranger to championships, as he is a former WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight champion himself.  Can he bring home the big one?

Prediction:

Miguel Cotto  —  def  —  Daniel Geale  —  via  —  TKO 10th round
