The World Boxing Organization (WBO) officially stripped Floyd Mayweather of their welterweight title, after Mayweather failed to pay the $200,000 sanctioning fee.  Mayweather had until yesterday to pay the 200k for his victory over Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd, and failed to do so, so the ultimatum was taking the title away form Floyd.  Pacquiao actually won the belt from Tim Bradley last April, and has held it since, but lost it to Floyd Mayweather in May.  Mayweather tried to refuse the belt, even after defeating Pacquiao, so that he can avoid the $200,000 hit he would take, but the title came home with him anyway.

floyd#300Floyd Mayweather still holds the WBA/WBC/RIng titles in both the welterweight division, as well as the Junior Middleweight division, and has said publicly that he would be relinquishing all of his titles.  With only 1 (maybe 2) fights left, Mayweather wants to avoid all the money he would have to dish out by holding all these belts, so giving them up is not such a big deal.

Now that the WBO title is no longer around the waist of Floyd “Money” Mayweather, it will actually transfer of to the waist of Timothy Bradley.  This past June 27 (on HBO), Bradley defeated Jessie Vargas Via unanimous decision victory.  Vargas was the holder of the interim WBO welterweight championship, and Bradley beat him.  With Bradley now holding the interim title, and the real champ getting stripped, Timothy Bradley, by rule, becomes the WBO Welterweight Champion of the world.
