The main event for Premier Boxing Chapions will be Carl Frampton VS Alejandro Gonzalez Jr on CBS at 4PM ET time.  Carl Framptom makes his American debut in hopes of bringing his tremendous skills across the atlantic.  Frampton puts up his IBF Super Banatamweight title against Gonzalez in the scheduled 12 rounder.  Frampton has strictly fought in the U.K. throughout his entire career, while Gonzalez has only fought in the U.S. one time back in 2012.  Here is the breakdown and prediction:

CARL FRAMPTON

-Record:  20 – 0, 14 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Super Bantamweight (122 pound)

-Height:  5′ 5″

-Reach:  62″

-Notable Fights

  • Kiko Martinez #1  —  Win, TKO 9th round, 2/9/13.
  • Hugo Cazares  —  Win, KO 2nd round, 4/4/14.  (Won WBC Super Bantamweight title)
  • Kiko Martinez #2  —  Win, UD 12 rounds, 9/6/14.  (Won IBF Super Bantamweight title)

Frampton is a pure talent.  For his weight he has a tremendous combination of boxing skill and power, and he can put you down with one shot.  He is the current IBF Super Bantamweight champion, and will be defending the title this afternoon.  Frampton is on a tear even with the step up of opponent class.  He defeated Kiko Martinez not once but twice, taking the IBF title the second time.  Lets see if his skills cross the Atlantic against Gonzalez.

ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ JR

-Record:  25 – 1 – 2, 15 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Super Bantamweight (122 pound)

-Height:  5′ 9″

-Reach:  70″

-Notable Fights

  • Hanzel Martinez  —  Win, KO 2nd round, 2/16/13.  (Won vacant WBC youth intercontinental Bantamweight title)
  • Jose Cayetano  —  Win, UD 10 rounds, 8/3/13.
  • Javier Franco  —  Win, KO 2nd round (8), 7/18/14.

Gonzalez sure is stepping up in class of opponent here.  He hasn’t really fought anyone worth mentioning to this point, so it will be interesting to see how he fares against a world class talent in the form of Carl Frampton.  You have to start somewhere I guess, and this is a huge opportunity for Gonzalez.  Can he step up to the plate and take the title, or are Framptons’ skills just too much?

Prediction:

Carl Frampton  —  def  —  Alejandro Gonzalez Jr  —  via  —  TKO 9th round.
