On October 3rd, live on HBO Boxing, Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KO’s) and Viktor Postol will square off for the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight Championship.  Postol is ranked #1 by the WBC, while Matthysse is ranked #2, and after Danny Garcia vacated the title, one and two must fight.  This but will take place at the Stub Hub Center in Carson California, and should make for a very interesting fight.

Matthysse is coming off of a brutal fight against Ruslan Provodnikov in which he earned a majority decision victory over 12 rounds back in April.  Now he tries once more to earn a major title around his waste which has evaded him thus far in his career.  I can’t name anyone that deserves it more then “The Machine”, because the fight against Provodnikov should have been for the WBO title, which was vacant at the time.  Instead that shot was somehow given to Terence Crawford, even though he was new to the division just having moved up from Lightweight.

Postol on the other hand is a very skilled boxer, but he’s really giving up a lot in terms of experience and caliber of opponent here.  Matthysse has fought the best which includes Zab Judah, Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson, and Danny Garcia, so the list is very impressive.  Postol is very skilled like I said, but the biggest 2 names on his resume are Demarcus Corley and Hank Lundy.  He beat Corley him back in October of 2012 by unanimous decision, and Lundy in March of 2013 (also by decision), and hasn’t really fought any big name since.  He has fought mostly out of the Ukraine, with only his last two fights being in the United States, so the experience factor should definitely come in to play.  Never the less, you can count on Matthysse to make the fight exciting if worse comes to worse.  It should be a good one though.
