This Saturday night August 1st of 2015, Premier Boxing Champions brings to you Danny Gacia VS Paulie Malignaggi.  It will be live on ESPN and ESPN3 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn NY.  The Phillie boy Garcia will come into Paulie Malignaggi’s home town of Brooklyn and try to steal his thunder in his Welterweight debut.  It will be a nice double header as Daniel Jacobs will take on Sergio Mora in the co-feature.  Here is the breakdown and my predictions:

-Record:  30 – 0 – 0, 17 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Welterweight (147 pounds) / Junior Welterweight (140 pounds)

-Height:  5′ 8″

-Reach:  68.5″

-Notable Fights:

  • Erik Morales  —  Win, UD (12), 3/24/12.  (Won WBC Junior Welterweight title)
  • Lucas Matthysse  —  Win, UD (12), 9/14/13.  (Retained WBAsuper/WBC/TheRing Junior Welterweight titles)
  • Lamont Peterson  —  Win, MD (12), 4/11/15.

There is no question that Danny Garcia has a spectacular resume.  He’s beaten Erik Morales, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse, and many others.  His recent streak has been questionable at best though.  He got a majority decision over Mauricio Herrera, which many (including myself) thought he lost.  Then he demolished a hand picked underdog in Rod Salka in 2 rounds, who never stood a chance.  And in his last fight, Garcia escaped with yet another very narrow majority decision victory over Lamont Peterson.  Now he moves up to welterweight to face Paulie Malignaggi, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

-Record:  33 – 6 – 0, 7 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Welterweight (147 pound)

-Height:  5′ 8″

-Reach:  70″

-Notable Fights:

  • Lovemore N’Dou  —  Win, UD (12), 6/16/07.  (Won IBF Junior Welterweight title)
  • Vyacheslav Senchenko  —  Win, TKO 9th round (12), 4/29/12.  (Won WBA Welterweight title)
  • Zab Judah  —  Win, UD (12), 12/7/13.  (Won vacant NABF Welterweight title)

Malignaggis’ last fight was a disaster.  Everyone wondered if he would ever fight again, as “Showtime” Shawn Porter handed him the biggest beat down of his life.  Parts of it were hard to watch, and after the fight, Malignaggi looked like he didn’t even know where he was.  Well, the “Magic Man” is back, and defending his home turf.  Hopefully he can bounce back against Garcia, as he will he the naturally bigger man here.  He also holds a 2 inch reach advantage.

Main Event:  Danny Garcia  —  def  —  Paulie Malignaggi  —  via  —  Unanimous Decision (12)

Co Feature:  Daniel Jacobs  —  def  —  Sergio Mora  —  via  —  TKO 7th round (12)
