This Saturday night, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on HBO Pay Per View, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) will be taking on the hard hitting David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s).  This will be a Middleweight championship unification, where Golovkin will be defending his WBAsuper/ WBC interim/ IBO Middleweight titles.  David Lemieux will be defending his IBF Middleweight title in return.  The co-feature will be Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KO’s) defending his WBC Flyweight title against Brian Viloria (36-4, 19 KO’s).  Also on the card, Luis Ortiz (22-0, 19 KO’s) VS Matias Ariel Vidondo for the interim WBA Heavyweight title, and Tureano Johnson (18-1, 13 KO’s) VS Eammon O’Kane (14-1, 5 KO’s).  Here is my breakdown and predictions:

GENNADY GOLOVKIN

-Record:  33 – 0 – 0, 30 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Middleweight

-Height:  5′ 10″

-Reach:  70″

-Born:  4/8/82 (age 33)

-Notable Fights:

  • Curtis Stevens  —  Win, TKO 8th round (12), 11/2/13.
  • Marco Antonio Rubio  —  Win, KO 2nd round (12), 10/18/14.  (Won interim WBC Middleweight title)
  • Martin Murray  —  Win, TKO 11th round (12), 2/21/15.

It is no secret that for a long while, no one wanted to get in to the ring with Golovkin.  He has mowed down everyone put in front of him.  Golovkin even had to let his last opponent “live” and hit him for 5 rounds, before ultimately knocking out Willie Monroe Jr, just like everyone else.  This ploy made “GGG” look human, and he finally got his big fight because of it.

DAVID LEMIEUX

-Record:  34 – 2 – 0, 31 KO’s

-Weight Class:  Middleweight

-Height:  5′ 9″

-Reach:  70″

-Born:  12/12/88 (age 27)

-Notable Fights:

  • Marco Antonio Rubio  —  Loss, TKO 7th round (10), 4/8/11.  (Lost Middleweight title eliminator)
  • Gabriel Rosado  —  Win, TKO 10th round (12), 12/6/14.
  • Hassan N’Dam  —  Win, Unanimous Decision (12), 6/20/15.  (Won vacant IBF Middleweight title)

Just like Golovkin, David Lemieux is a knockout machine.  In the past he would purely rely on his power alone, but he has re invented himself to become a better boxer.  He is coming off a 12 round unanimous decision victory against Hassan N’Dam, where he put him down 4 times.

Predictions:

Tureano Johnson  —  def  —  Eamonn O’kane  —  via  —  Unanimous Decision

Luis Ortiz  —  def  —  Matias Ariel Vidondo  —  via  —  TKO 6th round

Roman Gonzalez  —  def  —  Brian Viloria  —  via  —  KO 8th round

Gennady Golovkin  —  def  —  David Lemieux  —  via  —  TKO 8th round
