Will it finally happen?  Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KO’s) and Sergey Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KO’s), have been dancing around each other for a few years now.  Who is really to blame that this fight has never happened?  Who really knows.  Stevenson blames Kovalev, and Kovalev blames Stevenson.  Thats all we know for sure.  Another thing we know for sure, is that these two need to settle the score big time.

Adonis Stevenson was the fighter of the year in 2013.  He knocked out Darnell Boone, then he knocked out Chad Dawson winning the lineal light heavyweight title, and then he knocked out Tavoris Cloud and Tony Bellew.  4 KO’s in 1 year over top fighters will earn you fighter of the year for sure.  Since then, Stevenson has taken relatively easy fights, the whole time claiming he would fight Kovalev, while almost getting knocked out by Andzej Fonfara.

Sergey Kovalev won fighter of the year in 2014, a year after Stevenson.  His resume of 2014 consisted of a knockout of Cedric Agnew, a knockout of Blake Caperello, and a unanimous decision victory over the legendary Bernard Hopkins.  That  as well will earn you fighter of the year.  Kovalev fought twice in 2015, knocking out Jean Pascal in their epic battle, and also knocking out relatively unknown Nadjib Mohammedi.

These two fighters are and have been on a collision course for a very long time.  They are the two biggest punchers in the Light Heavyweight division, and need to fight each other to define their careers.  So supposedly sometime this summer, these two will meet.  Kovalev is scheduled for a rematch with Pascal on January 30th, and barring a loss, maybe this fight will finally happen.  Stevenson does not have an opponent scheduled yet, but look for him to take an easy fight to keep busy.  Thank you to “Boxings Finest” for the amazing promo.
