Also last night on HBO Boxing After Dark, Luis Ortiz (25-0, 22 KO’s) defeated Tony Thompson (40-7, 27 KO’s) via 6th round knockout victory.  Thompson took the fight on only 5 weeks notice, after a handful of fighters backed out.  Seemingly no one wants to fight Ortiz, so Thompson took the fight.  Ortiz proved again last night exactly why he is to be feared in the heavyweight division, as he disposed of the far more experienced Tony Thompson, as he dropped him 3 times in the fight.

Ortiz came out strong in the first, landing a huge left hand that dropped Tony Thompson for the first time in the fight.  Thompson, on wobbly legs, would somehow make it out of the round, and go on to fight some more.  His best shot was to take the fight deep, and use his experience to beat Ortiz.  Easier said then done.  After a fairly boring second round (which Ortiz won), Thompson would go down again in the 3rd, courtesy of a left hand to the head.  Thompson would lose rounds 4 and 5 as well on the score cards, and the end would come in the 6th.  Ortiz nailed Thompson with another huge left to the head, and he would not be able to answer the 10 count.  Ortiz stays undefeated, and is definitely inching closer to a title fight in the future.
