After months of negotiation, the rematch is finally a done deal.  Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (31-5-2 24 KOs) will be taking on Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) on April 30th 2016 in a highly anticipated rematch  .  The fight will be brought to you from the StubHub Center in Carson, California, and will be broadcast on FOX and FOX Deportes.  On the undercard of Ortiz VS Berto you will also see a super middleweight bout between Edwin Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KO’s) and Thomas Williams Jr (19-1, 13 KO’s).  Also that night, Fernando Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KO’s) will be taking on Jorge Lara (27-0-2, 19 KO’s) in a featherweight bout.

Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto fought for the first time on April 16th of 2011, where Ortiz defeated Berto via unanimous decision, and won the WBC Welterweight title.  Ortiz went on to lose his next 3 fights against Floyd Mayweather, Josesito Lopez, and Luis Collazo respectively.  Berto on the other hand, won his next fight against an overmatched Jan Zavek, but would lose the following two fights against Robert Guerrero and Jesus Soto Karas respectively.

The Ortiz and Berto rematch is a toss up in my mind.  Both fighters have shown flashes of greatness, but have fallen to great fighters.  Berto’s performance against Myaweather was absolutely horrid.  Even Ortiz did better before he got a well deserved sucker punch knockout.  It will be interesting to see which one of these men will be the one to rise to the occasion, and get their career back on track.
