What do you do when the top stars in your weight division won’t get in the ring with you?  That has been the problem for Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO’s) the past few years, so Golovkin did the exact same thing that Canelo Alvarez did.  He found the biggest star he could find from a different weight class to fight him.  On September 10th 2016, Gennady Golovkin will defend his WBAsuper/WBC/IBF/IBO Middleweight titles against the worlds top ranked welterweight, Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KO’s).  Golovkin took the same path that Canelo Alvarez took, when he chose to fight Amir Khan instead of Golovkin back in May of this year.

The fight will take place in the O2 Arena in London England.  Only Golovkins Middleweight titles will be on the line in this one, so if Kell Brook were to lose, he would keep his IBF welterweight title.  For Brook it makes sense because he has an opportunity to capture 4 titles in one fight, and it will no doubt be his biggest pay day, which is exactly what he’s looking for.  The only thing he has to lose is that zero in the loss column in his record, which he apparently doesn’t care about anyway if he’s willing to get in the ring with Golovkin.  “GGG” has knocked out his last 22 opponents, and Brook being a full 2 weight classes below him, that streak doesn’t seem to be in jeopardy to end.
