Inoue put on another sublime display in Glasgow.

Earlier today, Naoya Inoue (17-0, 15 KO’s) and Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KO’s) squared off in the World Boxing Super Series Semi Finals, and IBF/WBA title unification, and Inoue made quick work of the previously undefeated Manny Rodriguez.  Rodriguez was thought to be Inoue’s toughest opponent to date in his young career, but Inoue apparently did not get the message, disposing of Rodriguez in less then 2 rounds.  Rodriguez looked sharp in the first round, walking down Inoue.

Inoue, apparently, was just collecting information in the first round, and he came out strong in the second.  Inoue landed a blistering left hook a third of the way through round two, that sent Rodriguez down to the canvas for the first time in his career.  Rodriguez would get up right away, but on shaky legs.  Inoue then blasted him with a right hand to the body, that put him down for the second time in the round.  Looking almost finished when he got up, Rodriguez was in bad shape.  Inoue sprinted in towards Rodriguez for the finish, and put him down for the thirst time with a flurry of punches.  Rodriguez beat the count and rose up again, but the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight.

Naoya Inoue stays undefeated with a record of 18-0 (16 KO’s), and will advance to the final round of the WBSS to face Nonito Donaire (40-5, 26 KO’s).  He will also take home Rodriguez’ IBF title.  He is now the unified WBA/IBF bantamweight champion, and the lineal Ring Magazine Champion at 118 pounds which was vacant.  Rodriguez is now 19-1 (12KO’s)
